This book centres on the Ramsay family and their visits to the Isle of Skye in Scotland between 1910 and 1920. The novel involves very little dialogue and almost no action, most of the text are thoughts and observations. It is based on three visions into the lives of the Ramsay family – Mrs Ramsay, Mr Ramsay and their eight children – who all live in a summer house off the rocky coast of Scotland. Adeline Virginia Woolf, née Stephen, was an English writer. She is considered one of the most important modernist 20th-century writers. She was one of the first writers to use stream of consciousness as a narrative device.
