The Dissident Blog #13: Digital freedom e-bok

It has been obvious for some time now that the struggle for the freedom of speech is being waged in the digital world. It was in the 1990s that digital freedom of speech was first debated, and the emergence of a new medium produced a number of rather too optimistic future scenarios. It was claimed that this new decentralised communication network would be impossible to control; totalitarian states would be overrun by the freedom of information. However, at the same time as new doors have been opened, totalitarian regimes are slowly but surely trying to censor new digital media. New grids have fallen over the internet as censors try to keep pace with technological developments. We dedicate the 13th issue of The Dissident Blog to the struggle for digital freedom of speech.
