Talking with children about the big issues of life e-bok

Children have the right to spiritual development; it is stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The World Health Organisation, too, points out the importance of spiritual development as it summarizes the criteria for existential well-being in eight facets: wholeness and integration, hope and optimism, inner peace, experience of awe and wonder, meaning and purpose of life, faith, spiritual connection and spiritual strength. Our culture has to some extent lost the ability to put into words the transcendent in life. It is not easy to integrate spiritual experiences, and many children do not have a language for their spiritual experiences. Ulrica Stigberg is an author, lecturer and vicar. Since 1997 she has been working at Fryshuset in Stockholm. (Fryshuset is often referred to as the largest youth center in the world. Above all it is a vision based on the conviction that encouragement, confidence, responsibility and understanding are necessary in order to enable young people to develop their innate abilities and find their way into society.)
