Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was an English novelist, best known for writing the classic gothic novel ‘Frankenstein’ or ‘The Modern Prometheus’ which is considered to be an early example of science fiction.
Mary Shelley’s mother was the feminist activist Mary Wollstonecraft, and her husband Percy Shelley was one of the major English romantic poets. It was during a summer spent in Geneva with Percy Shelley or Lord Byron that Mary Shelley conceived the idea for Frankenstein.
