She also discussed to popular practices such as the corporal punishment of children, and proposes new ways of childrearing including social motherhood, which frees women to pursue careers. Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1970-1935) was also known by her first married name Charlotte Perkins Stetson, was an American humanist, novelist, writer, lecturer, advocate for social reform, and eugenicist.
