Ruth Brännvall is the founder of an impact investing organisation that works in the nexus of finance and social innovation. Her work and writing is exploring the opportunities as well as challenges to fund and grow businesses that make significant contributions to social equity, preservation and restoration of ecological systems through innovative methods, and business ethics. Previous publications include Toolbox for the Social Business, Enabling user-inclusive innovation in African agriculture, and ‘They are so damn grateful’ A longitudinal study of post-colonial attitudes influence the innovation process in social ventures, among other works.
Ruth has designed and run entrepreneurship programmes and social investment funds that have in total supported enterprises in more than 70 countries. She has also invested privately for the past twenty years and explored first-hand the emerging fields of sustainable and impact investing.
She has a PhD in Economics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) where she was also teaching master courses, and MBA from the Warwick Business school. Prior to running her own business, Ruth spent fifteen years in media and telecoms. She has lived and worked in Örebro, Stockholm, Palo Alto, London, Paris, Tokyo, Nairobi and Accra. Her alter ego is a cat.
